Dylan Owens
Work Experience

MIT Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Lab, February 2007 - August 2007
Design of autonomous submarines, including system engineering, mechanical design, electromechanical components, and analysis of vehicle performance. Extensive use of CAD to design parts made in outside machine shops, as well as machining components personally.
Idealab, March 2004 - January 2007
Designed, built, and tested prototype solar concentrators. Helped to refine and improve designs, both in functionality and cost, as they moved towards production. Did analysis and wrote code to model solar concentrators to estimate the impact of design changes before actual implementation. Designed and analyzed assorted other prototypes including refrigerators, hybrid vehicles, and consumer products.
BSST, Inc., June 2003 - March 2004
Performed theoretical analyses of thermoelectric power generation and heating/cooling systems. Analytically solved and numerically simulated systems using conduction, convection, and thermoelectic effects. Derived efficiencies for a number of configurations of thermoelectric elements and heat exchangers. Performed systems engineering calculations on thermoelectrics integrated with vehicle cooling and A/C systems.
Motorola Life Sciences, January 2003 - June 2003
Assisted Information Technology department with hardware and software inventory of corporate resources. Wrote custom database software to maintain software licensing compliance.
